The People’s Credit and Finance Corporation (PCFC) was established by virtue of Memorandum Order 261 & Administrative Order No. 148. Republic Act 8425 of 1998 or the Social Reform and Poverty Alleviation Act further strengthened the role of PCFC as the lead government entity specifically tasked to mobilize resources for microfinance services for the exclusive use of the poor.

Following its mandate to provide the poor access to credit and other microfinance services to uplift their economic status, PCFC wholesales short, medium & long term investment loans to accredited Microfinance Institutions (MFIs). These are Rural or Cooperative Banks, Thrift Banks, Non- Government Organizations (NGOs) and Cooperatives that implement credit assistance programs using any proven microfinance lending methodology to finance livelihood projects that can augment the income of targeted poor clients

                                                                                 The PCFC Officers and Staff

The People’s Credit and Finance Corporation (PCFC) celebrated its 14th anniversary last September 11, 2008 at the Diosdado Macapagal Hall, Land Bank Plaza in Malate, Manila. With the anniversary theme “A Celebration of Partnership in Microfinance and the Fight Against Poverty”, the occasion was warmly attended by its Microfinance Institution (MFI) Partners from Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao. The elegantly dressed delegates, and PCFC Officers and Staff added glamour to this much awaited gathering.

PCFC also invited reputable speakers from different government agencies to share their experiences and insights from their respective fields. Mr. Nestor A. Espenilla, BSP Deputy Governor, talked about the trends, challenges & governance for banks. Ms. Fe B. Barin, SEC Chairperson, spoke on the trends, challenges & governance for NGOs while Atty. Niel A. Santillan, CDA Executive Director, gave a talk on the trends, challenges & governance for cooperatives.  An open forum thereafter transpired to further enlighten the invited MFIs.

Highlighting the event was the Awarding Ceremony to recognize MFI partners’ commitment and dedication to work hand in hand with PCFC in uplifting the lives of the poor Filipinos. The partnership plaques made of optic crystals were categorized into bronze (21 awardees), silver (60 awardees) and gold (43 awardees).

PCFC President & CEO Edgar V. Generoso expressed his gratitude and admiration to the leaders and workers of the microfinance industry. It was a fitting occasion for PCFC to affirm its vision for microfinance to bring continuous light of hope and reality of dream to the depressed and underprivileged sector of society.

Heavy rains outside the venue did not stop Ms. Sitti Navarro, the “Queen of Bossa Nova”, to heat up the venue with her songs and innate charm, while K Brosas brought fun and laughter to the audience with her antics.

Truly, it was a night to remember. A celebration that recognized the selfless dedication of PCFC’s MFI Partners who have journeyed with PCFC over the 14 years of its existence.
